A man has been found dead and a woman critically injured in a flat above a pub in north London.

Met Police officers were called at 11:30 GMT on Wednesday to the flat above the Bill Nicholson pub on Northumberland Park Road in Tottenham.

The man, in his mid-30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman, also in her 30s, suffered multiple injuries, thought to be life-threatening.

She is in hospital and in a critical but stable condition, police said.

The pair are yet to be identified but a murder inquiry has begun.

London Ambulance Service called the police reporting two injured people.

A regular at the pub, close to Tottenham's White Hart Lane ground, said it only opens on match days.

Another man, who did not want to be named, said: "We are all really shocked. It is a community pub."
