Mayfair jeweller's smash and grab: Man charged with robbery

A man has been charged after a gang armed with axes and hammers smashed their way into a jewellers in Mayfair, London, and stole £500,000 worth of valuables.

Four men targeted the Avery Row jewellers on Wednesday morning, using sledgehammers and axes to gain entry.

Shaun Britton, 25, of no fixed abode has been charged with robbery.

He is due to appear before Wimbledon Magistrates' Court.

Police said five members of staff were inside the newly-opened shop at the time, but no one was injured.

The raiders escaped on scooters after the raid.
