Woman dies after Thames motorboat accident

A woman has died and a man is in hospital after their motorboat capsized on the Thames.

The accident happened on a stretch of the river near Wandsworth Bridge shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

A rescue operation was launched by the police Marine Support Unit, the coastguard, Chiswick RNLI, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service.

The woman, who has not been named, was taken out of the water near Putney Bridge and later died in hospital.

The man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The Met, the London Port Authority and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch are making inquiries, but the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
