A man has been jailed for life for stabbing his estranged wife to death in west London.

At Southwark Crown Court, Gibson Mazikana, 41, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 27 years, for the murder of Emily Munemo on 19 August.

Ms Munemo was found with stab wounds at a property in Collingwood Road, Hillingdon, on 30 January.

Mazikana was due to appear in court to be sentenced for assault on the same day he murdered his estranged wife.

On the day of the attack, Mazikana was due to be sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court for assaulting a police officer who had attended the family home following a domestic incident, the Met Police said.

'Frenzied attack'

Mazikana failed to show up to court and was arrested on 2 February.

A post-mortem examination found Ms Munemo died from a stab wound to the chest.

Detectives investigating the murder also discovered Mazikana had tried to arrange for Ms Munemo to be killed, but an associate had refused to help him.

Mazikana, of Reid Close, Hayes, was also sentenced to 12 months to run concurrently for the common assault of a police officer and four weeks to run concurrently for breach of bail conditions.
