Teenager stabbed and police attacked in mass brawl

An 18-year-old man was stabbed during a mass brawl involving a "volatile" group of 30 people in east London.

Officers called to Chatsworth Road, Hackney, on Saturday night were threatened by the group and attacked with bottles, Met Police said.

The injured man was found with stab wounds and taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon and affray.

'Volatile crowd'

A Met Police spokesman said officers had faced "continuing threats from a volatile crowd".

He said the group "covered their faces and threw bottles and other missiles at police".

No officers were injured and the arrested man remains in custody in an east London police station.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
