Woman dies in fire at Croydon flats

A woman has been found dead after a fire on the second floor of a block of flats in Croydon, south London.

Around half of the flat was damaged in the blaze and the woman - who has not yet been named - was found dead, London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus helped a second woman to safety from another flat on Pampisford Road.

She was treated for shock by paramedics on the scene

Twenty-one firefighters and officers were on the scene from around 10:20 GMT on Wednesday. It took around an hour to bring the blaze under control.

The Metropolitan Police said the cause of the fire is under investigation, although it is not thought to be suspicious.
