Man dies in Debenhams escalator fall on Oxford Street

A man has died after falling from an escalator in a large department store on London's Oxford Street.

The man fell from the third floor of Debenhams at 18:15 GMT on Wednesday, a spokesman for the store said.

Met Police officers and paramedics from London Ambulance Service attended but the customer was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement, Debenhams said: "At this stage there are thought to be no suspicious circumstances."

The store was closed for the rest of the evening.
