Dean Stokes of Leyton remanded over firearms charges

A man accused of having a pump action rifle and ammunition has been remanded in custody.

Gardener Dean Stokes, 50, of Leyton, east London, appeared before District Judge Mary Connolly at Thames Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

He is accused of possessing the rifle contrary to the Firearms Act 1968 and having ammunition without a certificate, under the same law.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 1 May.

Mr Stokes' arrest on Wednesday followed an intelligence operation, police said.
