A new TV channel dedicated to news, entertainment and culture in London will start broadcasting on Monday.

London Live is a 24-hour television network backed by the London Evening Standard and Independent owners Alexander Lebedev and his son Evgeny.

It will be available on Freeview channel 8, Sky channel 117 and Virgin Media channel 159.

Evgeny Lebedev told BBC News he hoped the TV channel would create jobs and be a platform to launch new talent.

He added: "We're gong to broadcast into the homes of about five million people so if we get a share of that, or a substantial share of that, it will be a success."

London Live bosses have bought in programmes such as Peep Show and Twenty Twelve from other broadcasters and are commissioning new material from comedy to current affairs.
