Teacher jailed over child pornography

A teacher found with child pornography and images of bestiality has been jailed for a year.

Ian Clarke, 56, of Kentish Town, north London, was found guilty of offences including making indecent photographs of a child.

The police officer in the case confirmed that Clarke was formerly a teacher at a London secondary school.

Clarke was sentenced at London's Southwark Crown Court and placed on the sex offenders register.

Judge Stephen Robbins told him: "I have to bear in mind the (sentencing) guidelines, and public revulsion to this type of offending, and the dire effect this type of material has on children who are used to create this material, children in this case one or two, or two or three years old."

Defence counsel David Claydon said: "His initial reason for seeking internet contact with people was not for anything sinister or illegal, but in order to stay feelings he had of loneliness."

He said Clarke had "lost his career, which was dear to him".

Clarke was placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
