Man rescued in Balham flat fire

A man has been rescued from a fire in a flat in south-west London, London Fire Brigade has said.

Firefighters were called to reports of a fire in a building on Old Devonshire Road, in Balham, at around 05:00 GMT.

The man was treated for smoke inhalation and an ankle injury and taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting.

Six fire engines were called to tackle the blaze, which damaged more than half of the second-floor flat.
