A man has been charged with an unsolved murder dating back more than 15 years.

Harminder Singh Jhaghra, from Southall in west London, was stabbed in the arm during a street altercation in Hayes in February 1996. The 28 year old suffered a severed artery.

On Monday, Kiranjit Uppal, 36, of no fixed abode, was arrested at Heathrow Airport after arriving from India.

Mr Uppal was remanded in custody by Croydon magistrates and will next appear at the Old Bailey on Friday.

He is also accused of causing grievous bodily harm to another man.
