'Seagull dinner' among strangest calls to council

A restaurateur who asked if it was legal to shoot and serve seagull is among the strangest calls a London council has received this year.

Westminster City Council said it had compiled a list of odd calls which included a request to remove all pornography from the internet.

Another call involved a request for the council to travel to Dubai to collect a man's wheelchair which he had lost.

The council said it was encouraging residents to look online for answers.

'S' in Mrs

Other unusual requests included a woman who purchased a "designer" handbag for £10 wanting to complain to trading standards that it might be fake and a husband-to-be wanting to check what the 's' stood for in Mrs.

One female caller phoned to find out her own age and another for directions to a foot clinic, the name and address of which, she did not know.

Melvyn Caplan, from the council, said: "We are in the process of offering more of our customer services online to give our residents better value for money and more information on what the council provides and what we can do."

The council added that it deals with about 1.4m calls each year.
