Teen held over rape of 12-year-old in Walthamstow
A teenager has been arrested over the rape of a 12-year-old girl in east London.
The girl was pinned down and attacked by two males in a "secluded" area of Walthamstow at about 00:15 BST on Saturday, police said.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested by detectives on Thursday and is in custody at an east London police station.
Officers have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
The attack took place at a row of garages off Hibbert Road, near the junction with Theydon Street.
The victim had just met the attackers, who engaged her in conversation.
After the rape she managed to call a friend who came to the scene. The suspects then left the area.
Det Insp Simon Ellershaw, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a very nasty attack on a vulnerable girl just 12 years old by a group of older males who engaged her in conversation before leading her to a secluded area.
"She was pinned down and two of the males then brutally raped her.
"Despite this arrest we are still appealing for anyone with information or any witnesses to please contact police as soon as possible."
The first suspect was described as very thin, of mixed race and had a diamond stud in his left ear.
The second was described as black and very tall. His hair was partly shaven and he was wearing black trousers with a red and blue shirt.
A third member of the group did not commit rape, the victim told police.
