Woman is killed in Harold Hill gas explosion

A woman has been killed by a gas explosion at a house in east London despite a family's rescue attempt.

The explosion happened at a house in Harold Hill on the Essex/east London borders on Friday afternoon.

A woman was rescued by a member of her family and taken to hospital by air ambulance, where she died.

The explosion caused severe damage to the first floor of the terraced house on Penrith Road. An investigation is under way.

The London Fire Brigade was called just after 14:00 BST and the fire was under control by 15:00.

Two fire engines and 14 firefighters attended the scene
