Two children have been found dead at a house in south-west London.

Metropolitan Police officers were called to a property in Killarney Road, Wandsworth, just before 19:30 BST on Wednesday and found the bodies of a 10-week old boy and a 14-month-old girl.

A woman, in her 30s, was arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody at a south London police station.

Police believe the children were smothered. There were no visible signs of injury.

Detectives from the Child Abuse Investigation Command are leading the investigation.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said no formal cause of death would be given until the results of the post-mortem examinations were known.

Wandsworth Social Services said the two children were not known to the authority and were not on an "at-risk" register.

One neighbour, Jackie Cook, 52, said the family had moved into the £1.2m semi-detached property a couple of weeks ago.

She said: "It's such a tragedy, I can't believe it.

"Last night there were police swarming everywhere. There were ambulances and police cars all along the road."

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said the family had moved to the area quite recently and seemed "very nice".

She said: "It's a lovely area. We're very shocked."
