A man has been charged over vandalism to the memorial plaque for murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence, who was killed in south-east London in 1993.

A smashed glass bottle was found on the memorial in Well Hall Road, Eltham, on 2 October.

Paul Peters, 33, of Kidbrooke, Greenwich, south-east London, has been charged with racially-aggravated criminal damage.

He is due to appear before Bexley Magistrates' Court on 21 November.

Unrelated to the vandalism, Gary Dobson, 36, and David Norris, 35, both of south London, have denied murdering Mr Lawrence, who was 18 when he was killed.

They are expected to go on trial on 14 November.

Update 24 March 2014: Mr Peters was cleared of the charges in December 2011.
