Cyclist killed in HGV collision in south London

A 20-year-old cyclist has died after a collision with a skip lorry in south-east London.

The collision happened on Tanner Street at the junction of Tooley Street in Bermondsey at 1323 GMT on Tuesday.

A man in his 40s was arrested and taken to a south London police station but was bailed until 13 June.

In a separate incident, a 40-year-old pedestrian died after being trapped under a lorry outside Lambeth Town Hall in Brixton, south London.

Police were called to reports of an accident at about 0930 GMT, where the man was pronounced dead at 0956 GMT. No arrests have been made.

The 20-year-old was the second cyclist to be killed in a collision with a HGV vehicle in the capital in 2011, according to Metropolitan Police figures.

A total of 10 cyclists were killed in accidents in London in 2010.

Four of these involved HGVs, Transport for London said.
