Woman due in court over two deaths in Deptford blaze

A woman is due to appear in court charged with arson and manslaughter following a fire in south London which left two people dead.

Fifty firefighters tackled the blaze on the top floor of Marine Tower in Abinger Grove, Deptford on Friday.

Two women, aged 42 and 59, died at the scene, and tests confirmed they both died as a result of the fire.

Sandra Clarke, 49, who lives in the tower block, will appear via video link at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court.

She was charged with manslaughter, arson with intent to endanger life and arson, reckless as to whether life was endangered.

About 30 people stayed in temporary accommodation on Friday night, according to Lewisham Council.

London Ambulance Service said its crews treated a further four people and one of those was taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
