A man arrested over an attack on an actor from the Channel 4 series Shameless outside a north London court has been released on bail.

Elliott Tittensor, 20, who plays Carl Gallagher, had just been fined after admitting driving without insurance when the attack happened on Tuesday.

A man, 46, was arrested outside Highbury Magistrates' Court.

Tittensor pleaded guilty to driving without insurance during a car accident which left a teenager in hospital.

The accident in Kentish Town, north London, left 18-year-old Oliver Flint with permanent eye injuries.

Eyewitnesses said Tittensor was punched in the stomach, leaving him shocked but unhurt.

Three policemen held the assailant on the ground outside the court and led him away down a nearby street.

The TV star was in the car with his girlfriend, actress Kaya Scodelario, 18, in the early hours of 15 August when the accident happened outside a fast-food restaurant.

Tittensor was ordered to pay a £750 fine and was given six penalty points on his licence.

The actor, from Ryecroft Avenue in Heywood, Lancashire, took it in turns with his twin to play his Shameless character when the series started in 2004.
