Kenwick Park leisure centre fire: Building 'completely destroyed'

A leisure centre in Lincolnshire has been completely destroyed by fire.

Forty firefighters from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue attended the blaze at the Kenwick Park leisure complex, near Louth, at about 03:00 BST.

No-one was injured but about 100 guests at the neighbouring hotel were evacuated after the blaze. Firefighters are investigating the cause.

Owner Stuart Flynn said the leisure centre will be closed for about a year but the hotel has been unaffected.

Mr Flynn said: "It's completely gone - it's a write off."

BBC Radio Lincolnshire reporter Leigh Milner at the scene said the majority of the roof had collapsed, windows were smashed and there appeared to be nothing left inside the building.

Steve Moore, from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said there were 40 firefighters and eight appliances at the scene but the incident was being "scaled down".

Mr Moore said it was still too early to say what has caused the fire but an investigation is taking place later.
