Doddington postbox painted bronze by hockey fans

Royal Mail has said it wants the painting of postboxes to be left to its staff after a Lincolnshire postbox was painted bronze by "excited fans".

It said it understood the sentiment behind painting the box in Doddington, hometown of Olympic bronze medal winning hockey player Georgie Twigg, but it would be repainting it red.

Ms Twigg was one of three Lincolnshire players to win a medal on Friday.

Royal Mail has been painting postboxes gold in gold medal winners' hometowns.

It said the Doddington box was painted bronze after Britain took a medal of the same colour with a 3-1 win over New Zealand in the third-place play-off.
