Lincolnshire shoppers warned over fake sports goods

Trading standards officers in Lincolnshire have advised shoppers to be on their guard for fake sports goods being sold.

Officials revealed about 12,500 items of counterfeit sports clothing had been seized in the county so far this year.

The figure includes about 9,100 pairs of fake Adidas and Nike trainers alone.

The warning comes at the start of National Consumer Week which runs from 21 - 25 November.

Fans targeted

Anyone who sees any fake sports goods for sale are advised to contact Crimestoppers.

Heather Bellamy, Lincolnshire Trading Standards senior officer, said: "Sports are a fantastic source of enjoyment for many consumers in Lincolnshire.

"Unfortunately big games and sporting events present perfect opportunities for criminals who target passionate fans.

"Our message to consumers is that if you are not sure, get advice - if you think it's dodgy, report it."
