Scrap metal on A46 in Lincoln prompts bomb scare

An unexplained object which caused a bomb scare on a Lincoln road turned out to be a piece of scrap metal.

The bomb disposal unit was called to the A46 near the Doddington Road roundabout after workmen uncovered the mystery item on Tuesday afternoon.

There was major disruption to rush hour traffic as police cordoned off both sides of the dual carriageway to investigate the object.

The road was re-opened after it was found to be harmless.
