Sleeping driver jailed over Lincolnshire crash

A driver who fell asleep at the wheel and caused a head-on crash in Lincolnshire has been jailed for 12 months.

James Will, 25, of Happylands Farm, Owersby Moor, admitted dangerous driving, at Lincoln Crown Court.

The court heard Will crashed into another car on a straight stretch of the B1183 near New Bolingbroke. The other driver suffered minor injuries.

He was banned from driving for two years.

Judge John Milmo said Will fell asleep three times during his journey and could easily have caused a fatal crash.

Will ignored attempts by an off-duty police officer to get him to stop and eventually crashed into another car during the incident on 26 August, the court heard.

Andrew Cogan, defending, said his client had been working long hours to ensure his new gym was ready to open and had four hours' sleep the previous evening.
