East Coast disruption eases after person hit by train

Some rail services on the East Coast Main Line remained disrupted on Thursday morning after a person was hit by a train.

The fatality, at Grantham in Lincolnshire, caused serious delays between Doncaster and London King's Cross on Wednesday evening.

On Thursday, some early morning trains from Scotland to King's Cross were cancelled or terminated early.

Later services were scheduled to run as normal.

After the body was found, a spokesman for train operator East Coast said police had closed a stretch of line near Grantham with no diversionary route available

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line close to Grantham after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

"Inquiries have begun to establish the identity of the body and the circumstances leading up to the death."
