Parts of Lincolnshire battered by winds

Strong winds have battered parts of Lincolnshire.

Gusts of up to 70mph (113km/h) were reported, with incidents reported to the police including fallen trees and telegraph poles.

In Lincoln a driver escaped injury when a tree fell on a van on Lindum Road. Problems were also reported in Great Ponton near Grantham and Spalding.

Insp Colin Hague of Lincolnshire Police said there had also been several accidents involving lorries.

He said: "We've had numerous reports of strong winds, with trees and telegraph poles and such things being blown over and high-sided vehicles experiencing difficulty as well. And we've had a few reports of accidents involving them."
