A man's body has been found in a North East Lincolnshire river after a theft.

Police went to Cue World in Victoria Street, Grimsby, at 0121 GMT. A man seen on the roof vanished then was seen moments later in the River Freshney.

A man's body was later found at 0655 GMT. The incident was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as a matter of routine.

Detectives said gaming machines at Cue World had been attacked, with more than £100 in coins taken.

Coastguard search

Officers from Humberside Police were called out by a member of the public who reported hearing "suspicious" noises.

After the man on the roof disappeared from view, the fire and rescue service, coastguard, police helicopter and marine search unit were deployed in a major search and research operation.

The stretch of Corporation Road from the junction with Victoria Street was closed and diversions put in place, but the restrictions have now been lifted.

A police spokeswoman said: "The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and inquiries are ongoing."

The River Freshney runs behind the building where the man was spotted on the roof.
