Hundreds of piglets die in fire at Lincolnshire farm

More than 500 piglets and about 170 sows have died in the second of two fires this year at a Lincolnshire farm.

Firefighters were called to Northmoor Farm in Caistor Road, Market Rasen, at about 2200 BST on Friday.

It took six crews several hours to put the fire out, which was caused by an electrical fault, a Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said.

In February, hundreds of piglets and sows died in a fire at the farm, which was also blamed on an electrical fault.

Steve Wright from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said: "We will be working closely with the owners and loss adjusters to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

"It's quite upsetting for the owners and very stressful for the crews who attended as it's the same crews who attended the previous fire."
