Teenager dies in hit-and-run near Leicester Prison
A 17-year-old boy has died in a hit-and-run crash involving a stolen car.
The teenager was hit on Welford Road outside Leicester Prison at about 23:00 BST on Sunday, police said.
Leicestershire Police said he was seriously injured when a black BMW car collided with a group of pedestrians, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
A teenage girl sustained minor injuries. No one else was hurt in the crash.
The car failed to stop at the scene and was last seen driving off towards Almond Road, a force spokesman said.
It is believed the car had two occupants, police said.
Welford Road was closed overnight while officers carried out enquiries at the scene, but it has since been re-opened.
Police said it is believed the BMW was stolen from the Blaby area on 29 April.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service found the vehicle burnt out in College Road, Whetstone in the early hours of Monday morning.
