Three arrests after man critically injured in Leicester attack

A man is in a critical condition after being found injured in a Leicester street.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Welland Street and St Peters Road, Highfields at 03:00 GMT.

The 43-year-old was found to have serious head injuries and multiple fractures to the body.

Police said two women, aged 43 and 34, and a 58-year-old man, had been arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.

Leicestershire Police said the victim was in a critical condition at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Det Insp Reme Gibson said officers were working to piece together the victim's movements who could have been assaulted any time between Monday evening and 01:20 GMT on Tuesday.

The area and surrounding roads were closed for several hours while forensic examinations were carried out.
