Two men have been arrested in connection with a spate of roofing lead thefts in Leicestershire.

Churches at Husbands Bosworth, Loughborough, Barrow upon Soar and Cotesbach were targeted earlier this month with losses estimated at £80,000.

Leicestershire Police had faced criticism that while they were informed while one theft was ongoing, they did not attend until two days later.

But Sgt Ed Des-Chanelle said he hoped the arrests would reassure the public.

The suspects are aged 33 and 38 and from the West Midlands area.
