A 10-hour siege at a house in Leicestershire has ended with armed officers arresting a 37-year-old man.

The siege in Manston Close, Rushey Mead, began shortly after 17:00 BST on Thursday.

Police had received reports a firearm had been used in the garden of a property.

A force spokeswoman said when officers arrived at the scene, a man had locked himself inside the house.

'Disrupted night'

Neighbours were asked to stay indoors and the road was closed to traffic.

Following negotiations a man came out of the property at 03:04 BST on Friday and was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill.

The man has received medical treatment.

A number of shots, believed to be from an air rifle, were fired at officers during the stand off.

Superintendent Jez Cotrrill said: "Situations like this are thankfully rare but I know some residents have had a disrupted night.

"I would like to thank everyone living near the property for their patience and support during the lengthy negotiations."
