G4S guards robbed at De Montfort University, Leicester

Two G4S security guards were robbed by three masked men while collecting money from a cash machine at De Montfort University in Leicester.

Both of the guards were threatened and one was injured during the robbery.

After stealing the cash the robbers, wearing balaclavas and with hoods pulled up, left in a Volkswagen Golf.

Police want to speak to people who were in and around the university when the robbery happened, at about 06:15 BST on Tuesday.

Det Con Denise Reidy said: "One of the guards received minor injuries but both were understandably shocked by the incident."

Gerry Langdale, G4S Cash regional operations director for the central and south west region, said: "While we are pleased that our crew escaped serious injuries in this incident, our staff have the right to expect to be able to go about their duties without fear of attack."
