Plans for a £35m student housing block in Leicester have been given the go ahead by the city council.
The development on Western Road will house up to 600 De Montfort University students in studio flats at four blocks with 20 car park spaces.
Some residents campaigned against the proposals, which they said would increase traffic and noise levels.
The developer said the scheme will create hundreds of local jobs in the construction sector.
But Councillor Andy Connelly said: "I can understand the disappointment of local residents.
"It is a massive development. It's going to have a detrimental effect on people's lives and overshadow the park.
"The buildings are totally out of context."
The housing is expected to be available by September 2012.
