A man, whose death in a Leicester street is being treated as murder, has been identified by police.

Harinderjit Singh, 29, was found in Linden Street, Evington, at about 23:00 GMT on Sunday.

Police said they still wanted to trace the man who initially raised the alarm and the other residents of the house which Mr Singh shared in Linden Street.

His family have appealed for information, saying they are "deeply shocked and distraught" at his death.

Det Ch Insp Matt Hewson said: "I am particularly keen on talking to the occupants of the house that Harinderjit shared in Linden Street, or anyone who knows them.

"You could hold vital information about his murder and could help us significantly with our inquiries."

In a statement, Mr Singh's family said: "We are all deeply shocked and distraught by the news of Harinderjit's death.

"Harinderjit, also known to family and friends as Harry, was a wonderful son, brother, nephew and cousin and we are all struggling to come to terms with what has happened.

"We have lost someone who cannot be replaced and invite your help in finding those responsible for his death."
