Two women die in Barlestone road collision

Two women have died after the car they were travelling in was involved in a collision on a Leicestershire road.

The accident happened on the B585 Garlands Lane in Barlestone, just before 2000 GMT on Thursday.

The crash involved a Fiat Scudo van, Renault Twingo, Ford Focus and Toyota Rav 4.

The driver of the Renault, Jade Srawley, 20, died at the scene. Passenger Amelia Ecob, also 20, was taken to hospital where she later died.

Driver trace

Officers are trying to identify and trace the driver of the Fiat who left the scene.

Two men, aged 36 and 39, were arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody.

Det Con Rob Lapworth of Leicestershire Police said: "We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of the B585 in Barlestone yesterday evening and witnessed the collision, or saw the vehicles beforehand, to contact us.

"We are also trying to identify the person driving the Fiat who left the scene before police arrived. We would urge that person or anyone who knows their identity to contact the police immediately.

"Any calls received will be treated in confidence."
