Thieves steal safe from Earl Shilton church

Thieves have broken into a Leicestershire church and stolen a safe.

The theft from Earl Shilton Baptist Church, Mill Lane, took place sometime between 1930 GMT on Tuesday and 1215 GMT on Wednesday.

The safe contained blank marriage certificates and marriage registers, police said.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area to contact them.

Pc Ryan Ludlam, of Leicestershire Constabulary, said the metal safe was grey and black and about 18in square and 2in deep.

He added: "If anyone has come across something similar discarded in the area or any of the paperwork then we would urge them to contact us.

"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may sound, could help us with our inquiries."
