Eight people wanted for a number of different offences have been arrested by police in early morning raids in Loughborough.

It formed part of Operation Consequence, which aims to tackle serious and acquisitive crime.

Targeted offences include burglary, theft from motor vehicles, robbery and handling stolen goods.

Police said it marked the start of more crack-downs on such crimes across north Leicestershire.

Among those arrested on Tuesday were people arrested on suspicion of burglary, handling stolen goods and supplying Class B drugs.

Det Insp Mark Hopkins said: "We've recovered some property of great sentimental value, such as a wedding ring and lap top with someone's degree work on it."

Currently burglary in Loughborough is down by 38.9% compared to figures last year, police said.
