A 70-year-old woman from Rutland who was critically injured when she was run over by a stolen digger has been named.

Kirby Hamill, from Clipsham, was walking down Bidwell Lane at 1500 GMT on Sunday when she was struck by the digger with a forklift.

Leicestershire police believe it was stolen minutes earlier from Clipsham Quarry.

Mrs Hamill was taken to University Hospital Coventry where she remains critically ill in intensive care.

Det Ch Insp Neil Castle said: "A small red van was seen in the area around the time of the incident and we are urging the occupants of this vehicle to contact the police so we can eliminate them from our inquiries.

"We would also appeal to landowners to have a look around their properties and fields as the stolen vehicle may have been hidden in a remote area."
