Rutland woman injured in digger hit-and-run

A woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a digger which had been stolen from a quarry.

It happened on Sunday afternoon as the 70-year-old woman, who has not been named, was walking along Bidwell Lane in Clipsham in Rutland.

The driver did not stop and police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

The woman remains in a critical condition in University Hospital Coventry.

The digger had just been stolen from Clipsham Stone Cutting based at Clipsham Quarry, Leicestershire police said.

Det Ch Insp Neil Castle said: "The victim has sustained serious injuries during the incident and was left lying in Bidwell Lane.

"The vehicle she was in collision with failed to stop at the scene and we need to identify and trace the vehicle and occupants of that vehicle."
