Shop in Leicester loses alcohol sale licence
A Leicester shop has had its licence to sell alcohol revoked after being caught selling drink to teenagers.
The city council's Licensing Committee said Jalaram News, in Saffron Lane, had shown a "flagrant disregard" for the conditions of its licence.
Police applied for the move after the shop failed to check customers' ages, did not provide CCTV footage when asked and did not log when it refused sales.
The store has 21 days to appeal against the ruling.
The committee also heard shop staff were not trained on licensing issues and did not monitor the areas outside for anti-social and nuisance behaviour.
Licensing committee chairman, Councillor John Thomas, said: "The Licensing Committee has never come across such a flagrant disregard for the licensing objectives.
"We wish to thank the police and trading standards team for their hard work and dedication in gathering the conclusive evidence presented to the hearing, which was largely undisputed."
Police said they were pleased at the ruling and hoped anti-social behaviour in the area would fall as a result.
