Retailer John Lewis is to recruit 550 staff for its new department store in Leeds city centre.

The four-storey £37m store, due to open in the autumn, is part of the Victoria Gate development of shops, restaurants and covered streets.

Work started along Eastgate and on the site of the now demolished Millgarth police station in 2014.

James Prince, current head of branch at the retailer's Sheffield store, will lead the team in Leeds.

John Lewis currently has 32 department stores in the United Kingdom.
