A 16-year-old boy who climbed on to a freight train has died after touching overhead power lines, police have said.

Kyle Bradley was pronounced dead by the side of a railway line in Wrenthorpe near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, on Saturday.

Another boy aged 16 and a woman aged 18 were also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries at 18:40 BST.

Local residents said there had been problems with young people playing near to the track before.

British Transport Police (BTP) said all three people were from the local area, and the death was not thought to be suspicious.

"At this stage it would appear that the two boys and the female were on the railway line and the 16-year-old boy had climbed on to a freight train at the location," he said.

The Office of Rail and Road has been informed of the death and a file will be prepared for the coroner, he said.

Wrenthorpe resident Ann-Marie Johnson said there had been problems with young people playing near the line for a number of years.

"It's gone on for some years - I've heard children and youths playing around near the line. I've spoken to them and to the police about it before.
