A 47-year-old man who died after being found with a head injury in a street in Wakefield has been named by police.

Darren Ronald Watson, from Wakefield, was found unconscious in White Horse Yard at 21:20 BST on Thursday. He died a short time later.

A 53-year-old man who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder has been released on bail.

West Yorkshire Police said a post-mortem examination had failed to establish a cause of death.

Det Ch Insp Elizabeth Belton said: ''The investigation is at an early stage and I would ask anyone who may have been in Wakefield city centre around of the time of the incident and seen anything suspicious to contact police.

''Neighbourhood officers are in town to reassure local people and while these type of incidents understandably cause concern I do not believe there is any wider danger to the public.''
