A fire at a water treatment works in West Yorkshire was started deliberately, the fire service said.

Five crews tackled the blaze after a large amount of plastic in a disused tank caught fire at the Yorkshire Water plant in Smithies Lane, Heckmondwike on Wednesday.

The fire service said it had received a large number of 999 calls from people who had seen a plume of black smoke.

A spokeswoman said an investigation was under way.
