West Yorkshire Police patrol car officer faces charges

A West Yorkshire police officer is being prosecuted after he allegedly used a patrol car to stop a man, causing him injuries.

PC Steven Mullaney, 40, has been summonsed to face charges of assault, dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The charges follow an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

PC Mullaney remains on duty in a "restricted capacity", police said.

During the alleged incident on 18 March, a 38-year-old man suffered a number of injuries and was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary, the IPCC said.

PC Mullaney, who is based at a police station in Bradford, is due to appear before Sheffield Magistrates' Court on 22 October.
