Two men arrested over charity bag thefts in Leeds

Two men have been arrested in relation to the theft of charity donation bags across Leeds.

Officers stopped a van on Wetherby Road in Roundhay on Thursday and recovered 16 bags of donated clothes including British Heart Foundation donations.

The men, aged 24 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of theft and bailed.

Earlier this week St Gemma's Hospice in Moortown said it was losing hundreds of pounds a week in donations from the theft of doorstep collection bags.

Insp Andrew Briggs said: "We are working hard to stamp out this type of offence that preys on the generosity of people to help others."
