Woman, 86, seriously hurt in burglary at her Leeds home

An 86-year-old woman suffered serious head injuries when she was attacked during a burglary at her home in Leeds.

Police said a man entered the woman's house and attacked her. He then stole belongings from the property.

The incident happened about 1245 BST on Friday on Pendas Walk, in the Crossgates area of the city.

West Yorkshire Police said the woman was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where she is in a stable condition. The force appealed for witnesses.

A police spokesman said witnesses had seen a man in the area before the incident who they wished to trace.

He is described as aged in his 20s and between 5ft 7in and 5ft 10in tall, with unkempt, fair hair.

He was wearing a light-coloured jacket.
