A prisoner who escaped by climbing over the perimeter fence has been detained after three months on the run.

Christopher Kerrigan, from Colwyn Bay, Conwy had been serving more than seven years for wounding when he absconded from HMP Kirkham in October.

Lancashire Police said the 22-year-old was detained by officers on Monday.

A second inmate, Kearon Hunte, from Leeds, remains at large. The 31-year-old after scaled the fence at the same time as Kerrigan.

Hunte is described as as black, 5ft 10in (1.8m) tall, of medium build, with black hair and brown eyes.

HMP Kirkham, a Category D open prison, was criticised last year when inspectors said inmates found it "easy" to smuggle drugs into the jail.
